With the growing need to “go green,” The La Porte Group is one of the local pioneers in incorporating the use of green energy and green building practices. The La Porte Group is considered a leader in Energy Star Building and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) construction. The La Porte Group’s work in this area has been recognized through many awards in green building. Preservation is critically important to our company and we will continue to use cutting edge practices in green building and energy conservation.


Lead-Based Paint Expert

As a company that refurbishes historic buildings, we have found that having a team that is experienced in lead abatement is a must. Our construction team is certified in lead removal, and we are proud to make buildings safe and habitable for the people in the community. Lead based paint is a contributor to behavioral and developmental problems in children and can cause nerve disorders and other serious problems in adults. We are proud to have a team that is dedicated to the removal of this harmful substance and happy to be contributing to a healthier community.


Green/Energy Star

La Porte has been dedicated to green building practices for years. Construction is a main factor in pollution, global warming and decline of natural resources. As such, we have taken measures to reduce our carbon footprint. Our projects incorporate the use of renewable solar energy, using energy conserving appliances and ensuring that our projects meet Energy Star requirements.

In addition to our own initiatives, two of our 2009 projects are attempting LEED Certification. This national certification includes strict guidelines for building energy use, natural landscaping and use of renewable resources. Our projects will use rainwater harvesting for irrigation, native adaptable plants, solar power, and many other techniques for decreasing the buildings’ environmental impact.
